Weekly Skinny

Let’s start off on the right foot

“The various features and aspects of human life, such as longevity, good health, success, happiness and so forth, which we consider desirable, are all dependent on kindness and a good heart.”

As Valentine’s nears, show some love for heart health.

Number one.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for American adults. Terrifying, roughly 45% of heart attacks are silent, showing minimal symptoms but incurring deadly damage nonetheless. With love on the mind, it’s fitting February is American Heart Month, bringing awareness to the disease and its disproportional mortality rates for women and people of color.

Love is all you need.

Like cancer and diabetes, heart disease is preventable with regular exercise, diets rich in whole foods, and a low-vice lifestyle. However, nothing is more important to longevity and overall physical health than interpersonal relationships and mental strength.

Home is whenever I'm with you.

Having love in your life makes every other aspect of life a little easier, including building new, better habits. Healthy, intimate relationships provide recovery space from the fight-or-flight mode many of us find ourselves stuck in. Trust eases stress, playing a key role in people thriving as they age into their 80’s and 90’s.

Like Buzz and Woody.

Less intimate but just as powerful, healthy workplace relationships exhibit mutual respect and smooth collaboration. With screentime markedly in the double digits, employers must intentionally find opportunities to foster connection in the workplace.

With a heavy heart.

America is the most stressed-out country in the world; our collective approach to work and relationships is taking a toll. And here’s the thing about heart disease. The first and last symptom could be one in the same. There is no guarantee of a second chance to correct lifestyle choices and live a long, happy life. With 47% of Americans having at least 1 of 3 key risk factors for heart disease, it’s time to support employees in their health and wellness journey.
