The pursuit of inclusivity at work continues this holiday season.

The Festival of Lights

Tomorrow, when the Giants and Commanders hit the football field under the stadium lights, there will be two additional lights aglow: the shamash and the first candle in the menorah. While it may not be televised, upwards of 80,000 fans will witness this historic moment marking the start of Hanukkah.

Eight crazy nights.

Hannukah commemorates the miracle of oil burning, providing light and life, for more than a week. It also symbolizes the Jewish people’s heritage and refusal to conform. Inclusive workplaces celebrate nonconformity and make space for people of all different backgrounds and ethnicities.

In 2022, organizations spent roughly $9.3 billion, yes billion, on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Rarely, though, are these efforts narrowed down to include antisemitism. DEI is good for people and business, fostering creativity and bringing the diverse top talent to the table. More than that, recruits, employees, and customers alike are asking companies for purposeful DEI initiatives.

Emphasis on purposeful.

Employers must evaluate and hone their DEI efforts on the regular and strive to connect more dots. Workplace problems often reflect tensions within our culture at large, and many marginalized employees are facing discrimination a work that is all too commonplace.

Can you hear me now?

Good! If you haven’t noticed already, employees are being more vocal with leadership, asking for what they need. Overall people want to be treated, well, like people. Committing to DEI, even when times are tough, illustrates to employees that they truly matter, beyond what’s on their résumé. This sentiment is especially important in making marginalized professionals feel valued.

Date with Data: DEI can enhance team innovation by up to 20%.
