The skinny
Last month, we talked about getting ahead of the burnout and preserving your mental energy going into the busiest time of the year. Now that we’re likely in the thick of it (or about to be), it’s time to take action on those self-care and self-preservation strategies.
Habitual rituals
There are healthy physical habits, like getting up and walking around at least once an hour. And there are healthy mental habits, like building mindfulness into your daily routines. Shifting your mindset takes both types of habits, built, and practiced over time. While habits may ebb and flow, consistency is key to making and protecting your mental wellbeing.
Reframe
It’s time we reframed how we think about annual enrollment. It’s not the “necessary evil” or “super-stress-bowl" the media paints it to be. Annual enrollment is our yearly opportunity to show your people how they can care for themselves. As you prioritize your wellbeing, bring some of that energy into your organization’s AE season and share the good vibes.
Learn
“I am still learning.” —Michelangelo, age 87
Michelangelo was one of the greatest Renaissance artists of all time. And at age 87 (allegedly) he was still committed to developing his craft. If you’ve ever felt imposter syndrome, this quote could be your key to squashing it. Anytime you’re feeling unworthy, replace that inner critic’s thought with “I am still learning.” It’s ok not to know everything, as long as you get involved in learning.
Stay visible
“Invisible work” —work that’s important but often goes unnoticed. Think about all the “behind the scenes” efforts that keep the workplace running but no one ever sees. Sound familiar? It’s important to get the recognition you deserve. This AE, document your accomplishments and don’t be shy to share your achievements.
