Weekly Skinny

Let’s start off on the right foot
“I can handle it – handle's my middle name. Actually, it's the middle part of my first name.”

The skinny

Halloween may be behind us, but we know the costume changes (100+ roles you juggle) are never over for HR. We’re winding down the last week of spooky season with one more Halloween treat. Let’s gaze into the crystal ball and get a glimpse of the future of AI in HR—no matter what "hat" you're wearing that day.

Split

Handling so many responsibilities, HR might start feeling like Kevin Wendell Crumb in the movie Split, (the man with 23 different personalities). Sometimes you’re the Compliance Coordinator, other times you’re a Marketing Communications Specialist, occasionally a Mental Health Professional. In the last edition of the Skinny, we discussed the surprising AI developments that already exist. So, what does the future look like for HR? Hint: AI is going to help smooth out your day, and help you transition from task-switcher to HR-strategizer.

Compliance

With policy makers changing labor laws throughout the year, the confusing healthcare system, and the ever-changing political landscape, compliance can be difficult to keep up with, and potentially disastrous if something slips through the cracks. Futuristically, we’ll start to see the development of powerful tools become even more common. That’s going to be a big relief for HR leaders and executives who begin adopting these tools sooner rather than later.

Communication

How is your company’s benefits utilization level? Good? Or could be better? As you’re planning 2024’s communications plan, remember to stay relevant. Match your messaging to the right population. In the future, it’ll be expected that AI will write your email draft, and automatically schedule reminders based on the employee’s health and claims data, geo-location, and benefits plan. But while AI can help streamline your efforts, successful communication will still rest on appealing to empathy and the human condition.

Mental Health

One of the most important “hats” HR wears has to be leading with empathy. Investing in your employee engagement is a non-negotiable. Do you know what your eNPS score says about you? Do you know what eNPS is? How do your employees feel about your organization—are their basic needs being met? Do they feel happy? Happy enough to recommend working for your organization to a friend? AI can help you sift through employee feedback that you’re (hopefully) collecting on a regular basis to offer support to employees when they need it, and opportunities to course correct if there’s a negative trend cropping up.
