Businessolver interns delivered delight all over town this summer as they were tasked with giving back to the community in some way. Team 3 chose to work at St. Mary's Family Center and had a great time helping others.

"Our experience volunteering at St. Mary’s Family Center in Des Moines was a great opportunity and rewarding experience for all of us to see first-hand how we impacted those in need in our own community. At SMFC there were three different departments/areas for us to volunteer in such as the food pantry, diaper room, and the clothing closet and 450-550 individuals come through the door daily.

In the food pantry we helped pack emergency food boxes and daily food produce depending on the size of the family (more than 8500 food boxes are distrusted each year). We also restocked perishable and nonperishable items within the pantry. In the diaper room, we sorted donated diapers into plastics bags for families with babies to pick up. Lastly, we helped in the clothing closet where we sorted, hung, and displayed clothing based upon size and gender.

This volunteer experience opened our eyes to how one organization can help a vast amount of people in need and how many good people there are in this world willing to devote their time and efforts to provide people with living essentials. Overall we would love to volunteer or donate at St. Mary’s Family Center in the future and encourage everyone to do the same!"
