IMG_2606.jpgBusinessolver is celebrating their 20th anniversary all year long with fun activities, dress up days, and other exciting events and opportunities to give back to the community. Last week, we celebrated with fun dress-up days honoring the Businessolver journey. Thursday was particularly special to me as it was Foundation Day!

Pulling together

On Foundation day, all of us at Businessolver sported t-shirts from our favorite charities. It was neat to see all the different organizations Solvers support. I really enjoyed the conversations surrounding the ones I didn’t know, and it was especially inspiriting to see how a lot of small town groups and families pull together for a cause they hold near and dear to their hearts – striving to make a difference in their communities.

I represented a Children’s Cancer Connection shirt – an organization I have been volunteering with for the past 10 years! I am so grateful the Foundation has chosen to support it, working for a company that supports organizations that mean something to its employees is truly special. We encourage Solvers to submit philanthropic requests throughout the year. We are fortunate to have passionate employees who advocate for worthy causes in the communities in which they work and live.

Dress for success

Our Foundation Day didn’t end with our favorite t-shirts – we asked employees to bring in their gently used business professional attire and boy, did they! We collected over 200 items, valued over $6,000! Our partners at Iowa Homeless Youth Center (IHYC) where beyond excited to receive our donation. IHYC is a program of the Youth Standing Strong organization, here in Des Moines. IHYC works to eliminate homelessness among children, youth, and young families in Central Iowa. They believe with support and assistance, homeless youth can attain self-sufficiency and break the cycle of poverty. One of our contacts mentioned a teen who was already excited about browsing through our donation as they had been offered a position and needed appropriate attire for the job.

The fun didn’t stop there, we ended Foundation Day with a party! We invited 15 local charities that we partner with to join us for a volunteer fair happy hour. Solvers were able to connect with these organizations, learn more about their mission, and learn about ways to give back this year.

Giving back together

The Businessolver Foundation sees philanthropy differently, with intention and purpose. We envision a healthy, well-educated world where community matters. The Foundation formalized in 2016 and focuses its efforts on causes that support our three key pillars of giving: Health, Education, and Community. We’ve seen a lot of success and growth in the Foundation and that is due, in part, to our Solvers and the passion they have for charitable organizations they believe in and give back to.

In 2017 we supported 53 different charitable organizations across the U.S.; supported 12 of our clients by supporting causes they believe in; 13 charitable 5K runs/walks supporting eleven different causes; and logged over 900 volunteer hours – that’s over a 100% increase from 2016! We also encourage employee giving through fundraising activities throughout the year and raised over $20,000. We donated this amount to the following organizations: Special Olympics, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Puppy Jake Foundation, JDRF, Joppa, Alzheimer’s Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Denver Rescue Mission, Courage League Sports, and Denver Dumb Friends League. We are very excited to see what 2018 will bring!
