The Skinny by Businessolver

You’re my rock.

Let’s start off on the right foot

If you feel ‘burnout’ setting in, if you feel demoralized and exhausted, it is best, for the sake of everyone, to withdraw and restore yourself. The point is to have a long-term perspective.” —Dalai Lama XIV

The skinny

Culture is a frontrunner in supporting employees and HR to help prevent burnout and prioritize mental wellbeing.

Best buds.

HR has been there for us through thick and thin. From 2020 lockdowns to 2023 layoffs, and way before,  HR teams have helped us all navigate some pretty tough situations (and years). Still, prolonged uncertainty and unpredictability have left many HR professionals feeling stress, dread, and burnout

You're my rock.

Though all of us may be feeling the toll of the last few years, HR has been shouldered with added expectations to think quick on their feet in the face of sudden change, to support mental health, and to facilitate change. Now it’s time for a recovery and renewal period. Then, HR can return to reasonable workloads, career opportunities, and empathetic cultures. Executives could consider hiring a professional to help bolster resilience and social connection in this time when it’s most important.

One-on-one.

HR is not alone: Their biggest obstacle to employee engagement is burnout. And the third biggest obstacle is leadership not engaging with employees directly. While managers can delegate tasks, they cannot replace the connection that comes with engaging people on an individual level.

If you're happy and you know it.

Clap your hands! CEOs are reportedly happier than ever in their careers—but it’s the exact opposite for HR and their employees. CEOs, it’s your turn to speak up, instrument change, and see your organization thrive because of it. Transparency, especially on those tough business decisions, fosters trust and can pave the way towards an empathetic work culture.

Beware the fleeting moment.

True, the recession will assuage some volatility in the labor market, though the impact on job satisfaction is likely to be brief. Undisputedly, nothing compares to culture in keeping loyal and engaged talent on the team. Cue the reasonable workloads, career growth, and empathetic leadership.

Date with Data: 49% of employees dread work  at least once a week due to unpredictability, a lack of stability, and an overwhelming amount of tasks.
Double Date: MetLife found that employees' benefits satisfaction fell to 61% in 2023.
