You, dear reader, are amazing.

Who, me?

Yes, you. Maybe you’ve been with us since the very beginning, or maybe you’ve been here for a few weeks. But if you’re reading this, we’re grateful to you.

Why?

Well, because being a supporter of something new, something a little different, is important.

Feels good.

Good! We want to be a light in your inbox that helps you stay up to date on all the haps. But now, we want to say thank you with something a little more substantial.

Tell me more.

Simply visit this page (no passport required) to claim your thank-you gift.

That’s all?

Yup. That’s it. And a gift will be on the way to brighten your mailbox.

Cool!

Yes. We hope you enjoy your gift as much as we enjoy producing The Skinny. We hope you continue to let us light up your inbox in 2022.

While holiday celebrations can bring positive feelings like love and connection, 38% of Americans say negative feelings get worse during the holidays—including fatigue, anger, and irritability—according to the American Psychological Association.

I feel that.

Truly. No one is normal anymore, so having normal social interactions again is going to take time, especially with people we may not have seen in a while. Protecting mental health is key to having fun socializing with friends and family.

Ok, how?

Plan ahead and set clear expectations going into holiday events. Don’t want to talk politics with that “one uncle?” Then say that before everyone sits down to dinner. And don’t forget, stating your boundaries means stating clear consequences for crossing them, too.

What do you mean?

Basically, if you say, “No politics at the dinner table,” you also should say, “And if someone starts, I’m going to leave the room.” Then follow through. Boundaries without consequences are just requests.

I request that you tell me more.

Don’t overthink it. Many of us get really worked up stressing about a holiday event for days or weeks ahead. Although it’s good to mentally prepare, try not to create issues where there are none. You can’t control what people say or do, so don’t think about it. #StressLess

Trying.

Good. Lastly, set up some time for yourself. Yes, it’s a family-oriented time of year. However, allowing yourself a morning where you get to have a cup of coffee by the fire or a glass of wine in the evening with a book and a bathtub is what the holidays are about. Even running an extra errand without the kids and blasting your favorite song counts!
