Today is Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the adoption of the nineteenth amendment ruling that women couldn’t be excluded from a job based on the nature of the job itself. While there’s still progress to be made, let’s take a moment to celebrate the women who keep our worlds turning.
Sky’s the limit, until you hit that glass ceiling. Women are often held to higher standards than men, including taking on the bulk of unpaid labor from childcare to home management. It’s hard to create that harmony, and it’s not surprising that some women are choosing to let go of the pressure from high-stress workplaces for a more balanced life.
As if we didn’t have enough on our calendars to celebrate, Labor Day is next week. A perfect time to reflect on the progress of today’s workplace, from the weekend to women’s equality. But as women continue to leave their jobs in search for a better environment, the upcoming holiday weekend is an opportunity to reflect on how our workplaces can continue to evolve to support women with equal opportunities and treatment.
As summer winds down, most of us are looking forward to those cozy fall vibes. Football games, pumpkin spice lattes, back to school—whatever the season’s shift looks like for you, let this be a transition time to turn a new leaf and embrace change and progress in ways that are meaningful for you.
