Recently, I was mid-way through introducing myself as Assistant Vice President of Client Delight to an HR team at a large transportation company, when the Director of Global Benefits interrupted me, “That’s not your title. ‘Client Delight’ is not actually your title,” she emphasized. Her colleague next to her, the Manager of HR, looked down at the business card I had just handed him and courageously responded to his boss: “Actually, it is. It says so right here.”

Pushing Limits in the Name of Delight

Seth Godin had an interesting message yesterday, stating that “giving people what they want isn’t nearly as powerful as teaching people what they need.” He went on to explain that you can either take the shortcut of meeting people’s expectations, or dig in and take the time to invest in a process that helps people see what they truly need.

When I read this, it instantly made me think of the approach we take to product development here at Businessolver. Giving people what they want yields satisfaction, but exceeding those expectations and giving people what they didn’t even know they needed? That’s what we call Delight.
