This past weekend Businessolver had the honor of sponsoring an event that helped shed light on and raise money for Iowans impacted by blood cancers. The second annual Blood, Sweat & Beers 5k Run/Walk was held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and 25 Businessolver employees participated.

Byron Smith, a Businessolver solutions architect, played a major role in this year’s run and serves on the Blood, Sweat & Beers Volunteer Executive Board. Byron also has a personal connection to the event:

"At Blood, Sweat & Beers our mission and vision is 20/20. We see a future without cancer, being Iowa’s leading running event driving awareness and support for Iowa patients and families impacted by cancer.

Last year, because of the caring spirit of our runners, sponsors and this great community we supported: a mother and her 15-year old son who was diagnosed with Lymphoma. A 73 year-old single man who needed help arranging and paying for transportation to get to his treatments, and an 8 year-old girl going through treatment for Leukemia. These are just a few of real Iowa lives impacted by your generosity to make this a better community in which we all live and work. I am excited about the opportunity that we have in front of us to do more to combat this growing health crisis, while supporting those in need.

At Businessolver we’re committed to business with a purpose. Which means ensuring the right products, services and support are there for our customers at the right time. Sponsoring Blood, Sweet & Beers allowed us to drive that same commitment in the community we live, work, and play. Our company’s philanthropic focus is on creating a healthy, well-educated world where community matters.

Last year, I was a runner in memory of my dad who passed away with Lymphoma at the age of 30. While I was 8, I can remember the journey. I remember being scared. I’m most grateful for my faith, my family, and the community I had around me. This is why I give back. In closing thank you again for the support and thank you for running with us. And another thank you to our sponsors and donors for none of this would be possible without you. As we grow throughout Iowa join us in Carroll, Iowa at Swan Lake State Park on October 8th. For those of you fighting, those of you in support roles, those in grief: keep fighting, keep encouraging one another and may you remember that you are not alone and you have a community right in your midst. Right here in Iowa. Together we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. Blood, Sweat & Beers brings people together to turn the stories around for those most in need throughout Iowa."
